3 Things to Do During the Fall in South Haven, MI

Spend the Afternoon at Black River Park

The Black River is a 4.2-mile Michigan-state tributary that flows into Lake Michigan from South Haven. Compared to Lake Michigan’s ocean-like qualities, the Black River is relatively calm. Explore this watercourse at Black River Park. The park is a great place for a picnic lunch by the water’s edge or to hop on the Bangor/South Haven Heritage Water Trail. Enjoy the panoramic views of fall foliage that surrounds you as you propel your water vessel upstream.

See the Fall Foliage Along Lake Michigan

Viewing fall foliage from the Black River is a unique experience all its own, but there’s also plenty of ways to gaze in awe at the views of gold from land! Hike or bike your way to these unmatched views on the Kal-Haven Trail Head. This 35-mile trailhead runs from Kalamazoo to South Haven. With so much land coverage, there are endless ways to experience the sights from this route!

Visit the Farmers’ Market or a Pumpkin Patch

Perhaps the most anticipated aspect of autumn is all of its great activities. The promise of apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and other idyllic autumn activities are part of what makes this season so special. Take advantage of nature’s bounty during this season at the South Haven Farmers’ Market (until mid-October) or at a u-pick farm! At either location, select fresh, locally-grown produce and other ingredients you need to whip up a grandma’s famous jam or pie recipe! This is a great way to shop local, in-season produce and take advantage of the fully-equipped kitchens in our cottages and Resort House.
