Ride Bikes at Kal-Haven Trail State Park
Outdoor enthusiasts of all types are sure to enjoy Kal-Haven Trail State Park. This 33-mile stretch of limestone and slag gets its name from joining together South Haven and Kalamazoo through a series of bridges. Here, visitors can participate in a variety of outdoor activities like hiking and biking in the summer and skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Never stop exploring when you visit Kal-Haven!
Explore the Black River Via Rental
Many visit our state for the serenity of Lake Michigan. Soft sand beaches hug the shoreline of this lake that, to many, emulates an ocean. There’s something to be said for relaxing with a cold one in hand, but there’s also thrill to be had on our area’s waters. One great example of this Black River that flows into Lake Huron.
The river’s launch site for kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating is atop a park where visitors can find recreational activities on land. However, our favorite way to explore the Black River is by renting a kayak, paddleboard, or boat. SoHa Surf Shop makes it easy with its equipment rental located near the launch area. These are self-guided water tours, so take your time appreciating nature and getting a workout in!
Cast a Line Into the Great Lakes on a Fishing Charter
Did you know that bananas aren’t allowed on South Haven Fishing Charters? This fun fact is just the beginning of the unique experience you’ll have on a fishing charter in South Haven. Just a side note, the captains believe that bananas would be perfectly fine on the charter, but old wives’ tales say otherwise.
In all seriousness, South Haven Fishing Charters has a package for every visitor. From sport fishing to just a leisurely day on the lake, there’s something for everyone. No what charter package you choose, enjoy access to same enthusiastic, knowledgeable captains who’re there to make sure your experience is nothing short of unforgettable.
Treat Yourself to Something Sweet at Sherman’s Ice Cream
By this point, you’ve explored South Haven’s outdoors at least one way. Regardless if you’d consider your outdoor recreation workout or leisure, treat yourself to something sweet at Sherman’s Ice Cream.
This dairy bar has an extensive list of flavors that can be served up in a cone, cup, or blended into a milkshake or malt. Go on, you earned it. If you’re a bit too hungry for just ice cream, visit one of our favorite local restaurants for lunch! Don’t forget about Sherman’s, though.

Our guests can enjoy a wide range of on-site amenities like a family-friendly pool, complimentary rental bikes, basketball courts, and so much more. Or, simply take a nap in your cozy guest room before heading out for the evening!
Would You Rather: Winery or Brewery?
Why not both! Our area may be considered a small town amidst the Great Lakes, but that quaintness doesn’t depreciate our cultural value. Like many other towns in the U.S., South Haven has kept up with the trends, one of these being the explosion of breweries and wineries. While you’re here, taste what South Haven has to offer. Here are our favorites!

End Your Day With a Sunset
The only thing better than enjoying a day on the water is enjoying a sunset on the water. There’s no feeling quite like the expansiveness of the water that seems to touch the sky as you watch the sunset. In our area, North Beach is the best lakefront spot to post up a chair and watch the colors grow warmer in the sky.
With the help of the Michigan Maritime Museum, you can watch the sunset from the water! From the end of May to the end of September, book your ticket on the two-hour-long Sunset Cruise. At $37 per person, you can’t beat the price and especially not the views!
